frances - I have been dubious about the kewish possibility for some time. She is noted in a report about manx noteworthies

"2 This, together with his cocked hat, were given by him to his housekeeper, Eleanor Kewish (Mr. Preston's grandmother), who afterwards married Thomas William Corlett, of Brough-jiarg, Ballaugh. They are now in the possession of her eldest son, Mr. Thomas Corlett, of Liverpool. Miss Preston, Mr. Preston's sister, has Captain Kelly's gold snuff-box."

This was about capt william kelly that died in 1823. The ellinor that I am after was born in 1810. If the eleanor that I am looking for was a kewish then in 1823 she would be 13, too young to be a housekeeper. There are records of an eleanor kewish born around 1801 who would be a likely candidate for the 1823 housekeeper.

I see what you mean about the kids though but another thing that puzzled me was the two young girls in 1841 eliza (2) and lettitia (3) dissapear and are not in the other censuses.
