Re: Viking descendants on the Isle of Man

We Australians certainly are anything but gullible. We can see a conman a mile off. My interest is purely anthropological. Having discussed this with an online Icelandic friend, it astounds me that despite what we may think, almost any person on the earth could be distantly related to another. My main interest is physical characteristics. People apparently totally unconnected, having almost identical facial features. We are more than the sum of our parents genes - our DNA contains traces of hundreds of generations. We, as humans, have been on the earth such a short time in the history of the universe. Just because we weren't born on IOM, that doesn't make us any less Manx. I'm proud to tell people that my Great Great grandfather was a Manxman. I'm also proud of my Irish roots through my Great Great Grandmother, who came to Australia and married this Manxman. And their daughter-in-law (my Gr.grandmother) also from a Manx family. But if I have a tiny bit of the Viking in me, even just a cell or two, then I think that's pretty amazing as well. And that's just my mothers side of the family. My children have all of that, plus their Scottish and English heritage from MY fathers family, and a lot of German through THEIR fathers family. But ultimately, we're Australian, and damn proud of that. The melting pot is nothing new. I'll get off my soapbox now.
