Re: the name Bridson, the consensus among the authorities (A W Moore, J J Kneen, Leslie Quilliam) is that the name is of celtic origin. The Manx Gaelic form quoted by Frances eroded to Mylevridey or Mylevreeshy which by translation became anglicized and duly recorded as such in the manorial rolls.
But what's in a name? Since the Isle of Man was occupied, settled and ruled by Vikings for nearly 200 years (1079-1266) and probably more, there cannot be many Manxmen without some Scandinavian blood in their veins - or should we talk about genes these days. Michael Bridson.
