hi Amanda and apologies to you and Sandy re wrong url should have been ARMY not GRAMY my typing is pretty awful-- anyway here is what i know about The Lancashire Fusiliers--Raise1688 as Sir Robert Peyton's regiment of foot-later 1751 known as the 20th regt. of foot.--1881 The Lancashire Fusiliers 1986 amalgamated with The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers--The Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers and The Royal Fusiliers to form The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers The name Fusilier comes from the weapon they carried The Fusil or 'Fuzil' a musket that was greatly superior to the Matchlock which had a burning fuse to ignite the powder-- As Fusiliers were originaly raised to protect the Train of Artillery this was a much safer weapon to use where gunpowder was in abundence around the gun positions and indeed in the garrisons in particular the Tower of London -I believe that the Fusilier's to show their connection to The Royal Regiment of Artillery -on their dress trouser,s wear the same broad stripe as the Gunners. Regards and apologies for errors in my last info.John Callow
