The first mention of an Island Golf Club in the Press was that in the Isle of Man Times, Saturday, 26th September 1891
GOLFING IN RAMSEY.
A large and representative meeting was held on Wednesday night, in the Masonic Club-rooms. Ramsey, for the purpose of considering the advisability of forming a Golf Club in the town Mr J. P.. Cowell. H.K., presided, and Mr Cruickshank stated that through the enterprise of Mr Alexander Bruce, of Douglas, links for golf had been laid at Milntown Flat, and would be ready for playing on in the course of a few weeks.
It was unanimously decided to form a club to be called the Ramsey Golf Club, with the following officers :—President, General Brereton ;
Vice-Presidents, Deemster Gill, Col. Thellusson, Mr Hick. Capt. Hardie, the High-Bailiff. Mr J. R. Cowell, Mr A Bruce, Mr C. B. Nelson, and Dr. Clucas.
Committee.:—Dr. Gell, Messrs W. D. Roose. S. Wilson. J. Beswick. W. H. Taubman. J. J. Corlett. C. B. Heyes. W Worrall, F. M. LaMothe, and E. B. Moysey.Mr J. M. Cruickshank was unanimously elected secretary, and Mr P. M. C. Kermode assistant secretary, and Mr H. E. Bishop treasurer. It was decided to fix the annual subscription at 10s 6d. but after the 1st January an entrance fee of 5s will be paid by members joining, in addition to the subscription. After discussing various matters in connection with the game, the meeting was adjourned for a fortnight.
By the end of 1891 the opening day was being planned with invitations to the Douglas and Castletown clubs

GOLF CLUB.
A meeting of the Ramsey Golf Club was held in the Court House, on Friday. Mr J. M. Cruickshank presided, and there was a large attendance. It was announced that satisfactory arrangements had been made with Mr Bruce for the use of the Links at Milntown. and the rules of the Club were approved.
It was resolved to have an opening day on Saturday, January 2nd, 1892. to which the Douglas and Castletown Clubs should be invited. The Club is now in working order, and persons wishing to join should communicate at once with Mr Cruickshank or Mr P. M. C. Kermode.
