[from A.M Harrision's Descriptive List of Insular Societies]

(184) Douglas Golf Links. Port-e-Chee - 1891-4,

Privately owned by Mr. George Drinkwater of Kirby, and designed by Drinkwater and 'Tom Morris' of St. Andrews, at Port e chee, near the Quarterbridge, the 9-hole links were opened by Governor Spencer Walpole on 4 November 1891, an account of which event is printed in the Isle of Man Times of 7 November 1891.

Although the most exclusive of the clubs on the Island, the newspaper report still reflects that 'The introduction of golf here supplies an additional attraction to visitors, and a want felt by the residents of our Island'.
