Advertisements in the Isle of Man Times, Mona's Herald and Manx Sun invited all fresh water anglers on the Island to a meeting chaired by High Bailiff Harris at the Talbot Hotel, Douglas in February 1890 to consider the advisability of forming an association to be called the Isle of Man Angling Association. The society was not only concerned with the angling amenities of the Island sportsmen but also its commercial value as a tourist attraction.
