Under the headline, 'The Noble Game of Cricket' a notice was inserted in the Mona's Herald of 19 June 1861, advertising the establishment of the Douglas Cricket Club and soliciting investment in its development to Mr. Henry Parsons, solicitor, 2, Bucks Road, Douglas, so that a team of 22 might be created to challenge the All-England Eleven, a largely professional side playing exhibition matches since 1846, at the close of the season.
In spite of the alleged zeal and interest displayed by a large number of playing members, from whom the team would be developed, and the promise that 'a greater treat or a sight more attractive for all classes could not be got up than a visit from the All-England Club and an exhibition of their splendid play' no further developments of the scheme are reported in the Herald. The hurried and ambitious, tourist attraction scheme, however dubious, is an indication of the growing entrepreneurial interest on the Island in the development of the visiting industry and a recognition of the commercial interest of

It would appear that any club established in 1861 was shortlived
Isle of Man Times, Saturday, 27th May 1871
A meeting was called at the British Hotel on Monday evening with a view to the re-establishment of a cricket club, but as no one attended no meeting was held.
However a Club was established in 1889 - see entry #171
