The foundation in Douglas of a debating society for students at law and some of the practitioners at the bar was noticed in the unattributed columns of the Manx Sun of 6 March 1847. Its appearance was applauded as 'an institution which, if conducted in the proper spirit, will be of immense advantage to its immediate supporters, and eventually to the whole legal profession and public at large.'
Another one of the structured moves to develop the professionalism of the Manx lawyers, before the foundation of the Law Library and the statutory Law Society of 1856. No other references have been noted.
