The society was instituted on 20 May 1826 and its Rules and Orders survive in a copy printed in 1863.
The Club appears to embody the generally accepted range of functions and ceremonials of the average Manx Club. A typical North-side parish-centred society its officers are taken from significant families and its activities are recorded by informants in Manx National Heritage's Folk-Life Survey.
The Manx Sun of 7 June 1851 reported the sound state of the society on its 25th anniversary. 'The members, amounting to 130, assembled at Mr. Bishop's, North Inn, Ballaugh. The procession being formed, they marched to church, accompanied by a band of music, where they were appropriately addressed by the Reverend Thomas Howard, rector of the parish. They marched afterwards to Bishop's Court, where they were well received, and paid a visit to Mrs. Mc.Lean.
The Society dined at their Club-room, where they did ample justice to the abundant dinner, provided by Mrs.Shimmin; the evening was afterwards enjoyed in harmony and good fellowship. It would appear by the statement of the Society's accounts, that they had in stock at Christmas £990, and that an increase of £62 had taken place in their funds last year. This Society may therefore be considered in a prosperous and healthy condition.' The Club's sound financial position obviously deteriorated later and it was not recorded in the Medical Aid and Poor Relief Commission of 1879, presumably ending its operations after 1863.
