Joughin Clucas of Peel

Hi,

As I was writing re John Joughin (who was baptised in 1803 or 1804 at German) I thought I would open the batting over his wife, Catherine Clucas, who is something of a problem.

The couple married at German on 20 May 1826 amd had several children, the best known being John Joughin who became an MHK and ran the fishing net factory. He appears to have been born in 1831.

Cath Clucas was said to be the daughter of a Peel Grocer sometimes given as David, but I could find no obvious trace.

At present, and this is a GUESS, I am looking at Philip Clucas, bap German 30-11-1750, who married Jane Cain, who was bap at Ballaugh 4-April-1759.

They married at Ballaugh 15-July 1780. The DOB for this Cath Clucas is earlier than is often stated but her age varied markedly in the census records. She was buried at German 16-Aug-1853 aged 50 which suggests c1803, but the 1841 census would suggest 1806 etc.

I have treated her DOB and PARENTS AS POSSIBLES rather than Probable, let alone certain, and more work is needed. DOES ANYONE KNOW FOR SURE, as I will be more than happy to rewrite this very tentative part of the tree if it turns out to be wrong.
