Re: Fell or Fayle

Hi Lynne

Is it possible that Jane was a twin ?

Looking at the IGI entries of all the children of Paul Fayle/Fell and Isabella Stevenson which Eric has found, it looks as though the two who were baptised on the same day ( Nelson and Robert on 23 March 1800) were twins, since all the other children were baptised individually.

4. NELSON FELL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 23 MAR 1800 Saint George, Douglas, Isle Of Man, England

5. ROBERT FELL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 23 MAR 1800 Saint George, Douglas, Isle Of Man, England

Then looking at a likely date for Jane's birth, if she was a very young bride in 1832, the latest she could have been born is 1815. The other limiting factor is the age her family believed her to be when she died in Mar Q 1886 and they gave her age as 65. It's possible that she had been a young-looking 75. So 1810-1815 is the most likely range for her birth, and as Sue suggests, you need to look carefully at the entries for Catherine in 1810 and Christian in 1815 for a possible mistranscription, and also for an adjacent entry for a twin which might be badly written.

Having said that, my guess would be a birth in 1812/1813 which didn't get onto the IGI.
