John KERMEEN / Mary CAIN
In Response To: Re: Catherine Kermeen B/1834 ()

Hi Donna,

As promised, I've had another look at the John Kermeens born around 1800 who have identifying details given in the Maughold parish register.

But firstly, I can see why you thought your Mary Kee who married John CAIN in Maughold could have remarried John KERMEEN of Ballagorry Maughold who was buried 11 Mar 1877 at age 63. - Because there was also Mary Kermeen, Ballagorry, buried 30 Apr 1867 age 55, and you couldn't find them in later records. Or what had happened to John James Cain.

However Mary Ann Kee bapt 25 Feb 1816 Andreas, who married John Cain on 7 Jan.1837 Maughold (both from Ramsey), couldn't have been the Mary Cain who married John Kermeen 30 Nov.1858 Ramsey. In the 1861 census, Cardle, Maughold, John KERMEEN Head MAR 54 Weaver Maughold is with wife Mary [CAIN], 30, b.Lezayre, and Mary Ann KERMEEN Daughter 2 (daur of John Kermeen & Mary Ann Caine bapt Dhoon Church 23 Oct 1859).
So, if ages correct, Mary was b.c.1831 and can't have married John Cain in 1837!

Additionally, she was b.Lezayre, not Andreas, and they were not from Ballagorry. Her husband John Kermeen was at Cardle Voar in all censuses until he disappeared. I suspect he died in Ramsey (therefore not in Brian's burials), and Mary remarried.
Their 1858 marriage should say whether either was a widower/widow and give both fathers' names and occupations.

Another reason why this John was not of Ballagorry was because the Ballagorry John was there for the 1841 census, unmarried, with his mother Jane KERMEEN 60 [COSTEAN], whereas the Cardle Voar John was already married in 1841, living with his first wife Isabella [CLEATOR], and children aged 15 to 1.
The Mary who was buried would have been John's sister Mary KERMEEN 55, Ballagorry, buried Apr 30 1867 (bapt 28 Oct.1810 Maughold d/o William Kermeen & Jane Costean).

- So they were two separate families, not one John moving from one place to the other. And you have another Mary CAIN to find, b.c. 1831 in Lezayre!

I'll put the numerous and confusing John Kermeens in a separate message.
