Re: Catherine Kermeen B/1834
In Response To: Re: Catherine Kermeen B/1834 ()

Hi Donna,

The John Kermeen of Cardle Voar who I think was Cath's father was aged 35 (rounded) in the 1841 census, with a son aged 15 (bapt May 1825), so his father can't have been b.1824. I don't think he was the one buried of Ballagorry.

In 1851, which usually has the most reliable age before people start docking off a year or two as they get older, he was aged 47, so b.c. 1804.
In 1861, if the same John, he was 54 (b.c.1807) after marrying a much younger wife.
I thought he could be the same John because he was still at Cardle, and with occupation weaver, the same as was written on his daughter Cath's 1854 marriage cert.

The Mary Cain whom I thought John could have married was 30 (b.c.1831) b.Lezayre in the 1861 census, so I don't think she was the one aged 55 in 1867, in Ballagorry.

Unfortunately there were 5 John Kermeens bapt Maughold 1801-1807, so I think parents' or siblings' wills would be the best way of identifying him, along with the marriage 30 Nov.1858 Ramsey. He could have died in Ramsey. Thanks for checking the MIs!

Sue
