In order to identify my GGF, I tracked 20 John Boyd(e)s born from 1855 to 1875, which was 10 years plus and minus my target date of 1865. I managed to research in some detail the John Boyde who was born in 1859, the son of Philip and Catherine, before realising my mistake! The rest I have researched in less detail, other than my GGF, John James Boyde, who was born in 1861. It turned out that his details on the 1871 census had been incorrectly transcribed!

The remainder of your list, I am afraid, are unknown to me. I cannot get past James Boyde who was born c1810. I reckon I will have to research all the James Boyd(e)s born during that period and kill them off! But I am so busy that I don’t have the time to visit the Island! Roll on retirement!

In the meantime, I am more than happy to discuss details of any of those 20 because, in due course, I will offer my research to the Journal.
