The USA Radcliffe researcher tells me that Thomas served in the 68th Ohio Infantry from 1862 to 1865 during the Civil War in America. The National Military Home is a retirement or old age home for military veterans. He was listed as disabled for the entire previous year.

She thinks she found him in England in 1851 living in Liverpool as a lodger in the home of William and Sarah Crellin. Thomas unm 26 carpenter IOM.

Thomas R arr 18 July 1853 BD about 1825, leaving Liverpool on the Johannes Lange.
Thomas R arr 20 Aug 1872 BD about 1823, leaving Liverpool on the Samaria.
