Re: Look up 1871
In Response To: Re: Look up 1871 ()

Thanks Bruce. It's interesting to know there was a Mary Miller in Manchester, with a Thomas. She's certainly married to the right name but I don't think it can be the right Mary. I've found her with an Elijah Redgate. She says they are married (and she was formerly Miller), on their child's birth certificate, but he was already married and so presumably was she. In any case I've yet to track down any marriage certificate. Their daughter, my great grandmother called herself Florence Mary Redgate Miller and appears with Mary and Elijah in the 1871 census. She is also from Scotland, Stranraer - which ties in with her grandparents the Staffords who brought her up in Douglas. When Florence married she states that her father is Thomas Miller, so presumably he isn't dead. I don't think he was her father either! On her second marriage he is deceased. If you have any details on the Mary Miller you found perhaps you could let me see - if only to check what I have and make sure I haven't missed something.
