Re: The Rest and be Thankful
In Response To: Re: The Rest and be Thankful ()

A heartfelt word of thanks to Brian, Marie, Sylvia and Frances for your input on the subject of The Rest and be Thankful. As a result, it seems that I will have to re-think my grandparents situation in the time period 1900-1906. My grandmother, Margaret Sutherland, along with her daughter and son-in-law, ran the Victoria Hotel on Tower Street where my father was born 17 Jan, 1898. Mr. A.C.Teare wrote 'Later, Mrs. Sutherland bought the Victoria Hotel, altered and inmproved it, building stables etc., and on the death of his parents your father came into the entire properties' In 1901, the family are found in Maughold in a property named 'Ard' , on the census page, between 'Ballachrink' and 'Creg-na-molt'. They were at some point in time at 'Beach House' (tall white house to the right of the Pier) and RABT. So therre seems to have been a serious change in fortune in about 1900. Could this be the Dumbell's Bank failure?
