Re: Walter Philip Clucas
In Response To: Walter Philip Clucas ()

Ariana, I’ve found some information relating to Walter Herbert/Philip Clucas b 24th Feb 1924 Surrey. The “mother’s maiden name Jones” from the birth registration, may be explained from this marriage:

*******
Marriage in Glasgow:

CLUCAS WILLIAM HERBERT JONES IDA GWENDOLINE 1923 644/11 310 Anderston

*******
William Herbert Clucas b Dec Q 1898 Belfast was the youngest child of Joseph Henry Clucas b 1872 Glasgow and Elizabeth Eleanor Dickson b 1871 who married in Belfast in 1895.

At some point, the family moved back to Glasgow (see Glasgow electoral registers). William Henry Clucas married Ida Gwendoline Jones in 1923. The couple moved down to Surrey where Walter Herbert Clucas’s birth was registered in Dec Q 1924. There may have been a second child born to this couple --- June G Clucas, birth registered Hackney Jun Q 1928, mother’s maiden name Jones.

They were back in Glasgow by 1930:

1930 Electoral Register
Wilton Drive, Glasgow

William H Clucas
Mrs Ida G Clucas

***************
They were still listed there in 1932, 33, 35, 36, 37

In 1939 and 1940 there’s:

Name: Herbert Clucas
Residence Year: 1940
Address: 5966
Residence Place: Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Parliamentary Division: Glasgow

and with him were Mrs Gwen Clucas and Lilian Clucas.

Perhaps Lilian was a cousin or sister-in-law ?

**********
Working backwards, Joseph Henry Clucas b 1872 Glasgow was the eldest son of Philip Henry Clucas b 1844 Liverpool and Elizabeth Temple. Most of JHC’s siblings were born in Bradford, Yorks.

Philip Henry Clucas b 1844 Liverpool was the son of John Clucas (cabinet maker) and Margaret Welch/Walsh (married Patrick, IOM 1834).

Census entries show that this is an amazing musically gifted family through several generations.

Looking at London electoral registers from 1946 through to 1953, Walter Herbert Clucas b 1924 seems to have gradually dropped the middle name Herbert, replaced it with Philip (and much later dropped the Walter). Since he was with Daphne in all of them, it must be the same person.
