Re: Walter Philip Clucas
In Response To: Walter Philip Clucas ()

Tracing your Clucas line back to the Isle of Man, I’ve found John Clucas and Margaret nee Walsh in Liverpool in 1841, John’s burial in 1847, then widow Margaret and her 4 small children together (receiving Parish relief) in 1851, then daughter Margaret’s burial in 1852 and Margaret nee Walsh’s burial in 1856. I’ve copied the transcribed entries and will paste them in below:

Identifying the birth parish and parents of John Clucas, cabinet maker, is tricky because the only clues are the “age 38 in December 1847” and the “of Kirk German” when he married Margaret Walsh in Kk Patrick in 1834 (witnesses Philip Clucas and John P Vick). John Clucas and Philip Clucas both made nice neat signatures so they might have been brothers, in which case they might have been the sons of John Clucas and Catharine Lord (who married in German in 1809, witness Daniel Clucas, shoemaker ---Daniel and John both signed their names.) John Clucas and Cath Lord had lots of children, the eldest two being John bap 27 May 1810 and Philip bap 27 Oct 1811.

It was at this point that I had a sense of deja vu and decided to look at old messages on this site. To my great surprise, I found that I’d researched this family back in 2014. To find the thread, click “live forum”, scroll down to the page box, select 341, and this brings up a March 2008 page. Click on the top message “Clucas family Isle of Man” by Noelle. You now have a long thread, much of which doesn’t relate to your Clucases. The relevant messages are:

1) about halfway down, 3 messages dated 15/4/2009
2) 6 messages 2/11/2014 to 9/11/2014

.... but to keep this current thread intact, it’s best not to write a reply directly to those old messages. I’ll paste into a separate message in this thread the main points from the old thread.
