Re: Marriages
In Response To: Re: Marriages ()

Hi Donna, I already have under heading Quine. My greatgreat grandmother Rebekah Quine is recorded as living in Onchan 1841 with her husband Robert Nugent born 1800/01 in Ireland. One of the witnesses at the marriage in Ireland was Jayne Quine also living at the same address in IOM with her family in 1841. Jayne was married to William Quine in 1813, her maiden name was Quayle. I can't work out what the connection is between Wm Quine born 1788 in IOM and Rebekah Quine born 1808 who, according to the only record I can find (1841 IOM census), was born in Ireland. I have been unable to find any record of Rebekah's birth anywhere. I'm not sure if I will find the answer but it is intriguing me, was William her father ? it would have made him 19/20 if Jayne was the mother she would have been 14. It's a possibility but they didn't marry for another 5 years after her birth. She could of course be his sister with a 20 year gap but still doesn't solve the puzzle of her birth. Any suggestions ? Forgot one other puzzling thing is Rebekah has on every census had her d.o.b. as 7 years earlier 1801, her death certificate should have recorded her age as 62/63 but it says 56. That must be correct as there is a birth recorded when she would have been in her late fifties when in reality she was 49/50
