Re: Burial check please - Braddan Caine

Hi Viv ,
The John Stanley Caine who was buried 6/11/1938 Braddan, aged 47 appears to be the one born 9/11/1890 Douglas, to John Nelson Caine and Martha Dobson, so can't be yours.
There is no birth on the IGI for your JSC (John Stanley Caine) , however , strangely there are 8 Caines in his birth time with second name Stanley - Richard , Forbes, Robert, Hugh, William, James, George and Joseph. Hugh was in England in 1911 and George died in Canada.
There are quite a few Robert Caines in John's time and all seem to have wife's Mary. Could he have called something other than his christened name ?
John married Eleanor Jane Kneale 4/4/1897 in Douglas. Had at least Maria May 1897, Elsie 1898, John Neale Caine 1899, Ernest 1902, Eleanor Margaret 1903.
While looking for John's birth I found a Maria May Caine born to Robert & Mary Caine , ch 3/1/1864 St Barnabas Douglas, so thinking Maria May being very rare on IOM looked for more detail on this family , but as they had a John C aged 23 , this can't be him - or did he lie about his age - it was done !!
1881 census has Eleanor Jane Kneale at 61 South Quay in Douglas , with father William , mother Maria (Nee Quirk) siblings Mary Ann, William Lee, Robert Hy, and Maria. William Kneale was born in Liverpool.
Maybe Donna could help you by trying the death of Eleanor Jane Caine, 18/7/1953, Braddan aged 79. There are about 5 EJC's but she is the only one that matches.
On the 1901 census John is only shown as John Caine perhaps he dropped the Stanley , even so there is no burial match for him.

Cheers
David Dwyer
