Re: James Clague, Michael, and Ann Joughin, Bride

Hi Philip, no issue with continuing this on the board, as like mailing lists any answer can assist others.
1. Age of Ann and her daughter Mary when first giving birth.
Good to see that this is not so unusual, I have other research in other lands in which women married very young and had children immediately, so being married at 30, and then having children was a bit of question mark for me if this may have been normal or unusual.
I suspect in the case of Ann, there are some gaps in between the children recorded, so suspect maybe miscarriages or stillbirths could have occurred and not recorded. But your answer about being in the 40's makes perfect sense to me, in regards to last lot of children.
2. I think the Ann Joughin married to James Clauge is the correct one as the previous answers on this forum, pointed me to the registers that listed James from Kirk Michael and Ann from Bride, so that answered my query about why one was from one part of the Island and the other from from another parish. Please forgive me, but I have not had a chance to go to the IOM, but have also been told recently that one could travel around the Isle very quickly (today) within a day or two, so distance is not as far as I once thought.
3. I have not used the old IGI for many years, but recently using the current LDS search web site in which there is 4 types of records to view regarding the IOM. Births and Baptisms, Marriages, Deaths and Burials and then other set of records, called the Parish Registers of the IOM, which give details of pre the normal civil registration times. It was from these records that I confirmed my old research records, which were the IGI back in the 1990's.
4. I am interested to find out more about the Wills on the isle, (have just ordered some to view re my Corlett research), and what they do contain. Definitely my Mary Cain (Clauge) bapt 2 Feb 1764, married to John Cain 16 Jan 1796, Michael (I do have a copy of this marriage but the witnesses are not family members and of course no parents names are mentioned in this time frame). It is strange that Ann was not mentioned in her fathers will of 1766, but maybe she was very independent of family and working by then. ?
5. I have within the last couple of days, done some searches on Ancestry, and found a few others (some taken my research, family members and also my web site) have gone further on this side, but they do not give what resources that they have used to verify this information. I am a person that likes to be able to confirm as much as possible that I do have the correct families associated with the previous lines, without too much guess work, if you know what I mean. this is not always easy.
I am only starting to get back into this area of research after many years, now just retired and just started to order in the LDS films that have been done in order to get the information and proof.
I really appreciate all the assistance I have been getting so far from this list. I will post regularly and some day hope I can assist others with some information.
Regards Ailsa, Brisbane.
