Re: Judith Quine
In Response To: Re: Judith Quine ()

re Elder Boscow - please send me email info but mostly I'm only interested in the decade or so post emigration - the letter would be appreciated;
Re Nicholas Quine in 1753 he still owned property in Douglas (as I can't find any purchase I suspect it may have come via his wife) - he still appaers to be be in Douglas to about 1752 as there is an agreement with his neighbour a merchant Hugh Cosnagan re rebuilding a wall and extending both their houses but in May 1753 he sells the property to Ben Simpson a smith, describing himself as 'now of Ramsey' and pays off a mortgage he had on it and in Oct 1753 he buys property (not sure if connected to his earlier purchase but I'm not really au fait with Ramsey of this period ) - dated 26 Mar 1753;Nicholas Christian(Ramsey) [a Catherine Christian also signs] sells for £30(sterling) to Nicholas Quine(Ramsey) a small parcel of my estate in Nicholson? qtr land lying at back of Ramsey adj John Stevenson's piece on southeast, Dan Tear's rent on southwest and to the way leading on the back of sd town on northeast and my own land on west being 10yrds in front of way and running the same brea[d]th to Dan Tear's rent;Witt John Walker, Tho [] x; - This seems to last sighting of Nicholas in the property transfer records.

Nicholas Boscow appears to be acquiring property in Douglas from 1835 - I didn't have time this afternoon to request these deeds as only went to Museum for a lecture - but in 1837 [SSS May 1840 57] he + wife Alice sell farmland in Braddan - dated 14 Jul 1837;Nicholas Boscow(Douglas) + wife Alice sell for £606 5s (British) to Caesar Bacon the land and premises being part of Ballaslig + Ballacreggan in Braddan adj Ellan Brook plus the field in front of the dwelling house of William Stowell and bounded by Ballacraggan the property of Wm Stowell on the south, on the southwest by Ballaslig, the property of Thomas Creer on southeast, by the highroad leading from Douglas to Castletown on North + north west and by the way leading from sd road to Ballaslig on northeast wch lands were purchased by me from Wm Stephen(advocate) by deed dated 8 Dec 1836 containing 12ac 20p;Witt W W Christian, Arthur White; [a plan of land is included lying on Old Castletown road in 2 sections disected by way to Thos Creer's land
He also has a power of attorney from Phil Simpson (a grandson I think of the Benfjamin Simpson !) to sell of a block of land in Douglas (now part of a car park!) which he does in several pieces in 1839/40 but there are some deeds that went thro court in 1844 + 1845 that seem to transfer property to him

anyway there is more to discover on Monday!
