Re: HOGG, KELL(E)Y, SKILLICORN, Lonan 1700s

Hi John,

It's actually not as bad as that - most of our structure remains intact! And I certainly know a whole lot more about the Hoggs than I did a few days ago. Including how many of them with the same forenames appear in records in parishes other than Lonan.

Our own relationships remain intact because both descended from Marriot Hogg als Tear. There are numerous records showing the connections between her named children, and with her daughter Margaret's husband Philip Tear. Her son John Hogg and John's wife Joney Kewley are also very well recorded, as is their eldest son Philip Hogg, both of Cloch Gear and John Hogg's croft.

So there is no doubt about these descendants who also include Marriot's eldest? daughter Anne who married William Kelly and died in 1721, leaving her only daughter Margaret who later married John Skillicorn. None of this is in doubt, so the "house of cards" has only one shaky extension, which is - was James Hogg her husband, and was his son Philip therefore the brother or half-brother or step-brother of Anne Kelly/ John/ Margaret Tear/ Marriot? Or possibly a cousin?
Your deeds and the "uxr" might solve this.

Any ideas about William Kelly's parents?

Sue
