Re: KELL(E)Y, SKILLICORN, Lonan 1700s

Hi Sue, Afraid I can’t find any other candidates! – nor any direct evidence.
There is an accumulation of circumstantial evidence however, which will probably collapse given one positive fact!
The Lonan property records [mnb]: [Lonan Intacks]:
1669 & 1690: No 58: James Hogg and Kath: Cowle his wife 4d
Was James married twice or were these his parents? - highly speculative!
However, the following is probably the James who d.1720?
1712: 52: James Hogg Crot ne cowne 4d and ½d in Glan willan 4½d
also:
1712: 61: Don Christian & Tho Hogg for Crot Hog 7½d
Frances’ message re Thos Hogg:
Lonan OD 1720: Thos Hogg to ….. brother Philip Tear a parcel of intack called the Large Garraw + 2 crofts, house + garden rent 1s 8d half now (+ other half after mo's death)
1) Philip Tear married Margaret Hogg 1719 Lonan so Thomas was actually his “brother-in-law”.
2) Thomas‘ mother was still alive.
3) Thomas appeared very quickly after the death of James!
4) Ann Kelly als Hogg named a brother Thomas
5) The "young granddaughters" named in James’ Will could be Margt Kelly bpt 1719-05-10 d/o Ann als Hogg / Wm Kelly; and Mary Hogg bpt 1719-01-31 d/o Phil Hogg / Ann Cowin.
6) However Ann Hogg was not named in his Will
7) In his Will published May 10th 1720 James Hogg died "4th Feb last", ie 1719 [Julian Calendar], but his burial is given in Lonan Registers as Feb 29th - thus a leap year which would indicate 1720 - there is clearly a mistake somewhere, because his dates of death & burial are 25 days apart. At least the dates of the children’s baptisms and his death match chronologically, whether he died in 1719 or 20
8) Elizabeth Hogg, d/o James & named executrix in his Will, “disappears” after being named in her father’s Will.
9) Margaret Hogg who m. Phil Tear in 1718 was given as 83yrs old in 1772 = b.1688/9 – but was she the youngest/oldest or in the middle?
10) Only Marriott, Margaret & John were named in their mother's Will of 1740 - and no indication of Margaret's husband, which would probably have been enough.
Two other transactions:
Lonan SSS May 1727: 48: Phill Tear to John Hogg
Lonan SSS May 1727: 53: Phill Hogg to John Moore
Thus in 1740:
1740: 53: Jo Moore tucker for Crot ne carne 4d and Jo Hogg for ½d in Glan willan 4½d
1740: 62: Phill Teare for Largagarrow 7d in the Larga 4d Jo Hogg 1d where Tears house stood 12d
1740: 63: Jo Hogg for Crot Hog 7½d
Finally another excerpt from 1740
1740: 81: Jo Hogg a parcell joining Phil Cowne Gretch & Phil Hogg Knockshowells lands 13d
1740: 113: Phill Hogg (o1749) for a parcell joining to John Hogg's new intack and to the lands of Phill Cown senr of Gretch 20d

Nothing absolutely conclusive! - Thomas Hogg returned from Ireland in 1720 immediately after the death of James Hogg and sold land to his brother-in-law Phil Teare h/o Margaret Hogg who was [partially] named in the 1740 Will of Marriod Hogg als Tear. Phil Teare probably sold a portion of the property to his brother-in-law John Hogg prior to the latter’s marriage in 1727 [to Joney Kewley]. By 1740 John Hogg was in “Crot Hog” originally partially owned by a Thomas Hogg in 1712. Phil Hogg seems to have either inherited or acquired the area called “Knockshowells”
The description of the Intacks in 1740 seems to suggest that the brothers Phil and John Hogg were farming land high up in the Hills on North Laxey Valley, above the Quarterlands of Phil Cowne Gretch Voar & Thos Cowne Cronk-e-chule.
Phillip Hogg is an enigma; he probably married three times between 1718 and 1726 – 1st Ann Cowin m. 1718-12-09 – daus, Mary, Margaret [d.1725] & Isabel. Ann d. ~1724-02-20. 2nd Alice Kermeen m.1725-11-27 – she died in childbirth ca 1726-11-14 [child Philip survived] 3rd Alice Fail m.1726-02-11, ch Elizth & James. Phil snr d.1764 naming ch James & Elizth; Alice d. 1772, naming same two ch + John? - no mention of Margt, Isabella or Philip.
John Hogg [probably] had an illegitimate son Thomas* in 1722 by Mgt Fargher, but he md. Joney Kewley in 1727. They had ch Mgt 1729-58; Philip 1731-1817 md Ellnr Lewney 1763 [7 ch]; Edward 1733- ; William 1735-58; Mary 1738-1808, md. Edwd Kewley
*probably my 6x gt grandfather - hence my interest!
