Re: Inheritance question, 1700s

Thank you, Frances,

Yes, I had the Joney Kerrush decree. And I had, as you saw, a bit about the dispute about the sale from Christopher Bell to the Quilleashes. I don't quite follow what you sent re the Chancery Court. But even more interesting to me are the following:

1. How is John Skillicorn kin to the Christopher Bell, (or, more probably, to his wife Joney Callin)

2. How was the disupute about the sale to the Quilleashes resolved?

I have found some references to a Cotteene family owning land in Swarthow which John Skillicorn had from his mother Elizabeth Ceiggeen, and settled on his son John (Lib Vast May 1727: Swarthow Intacks: Eliz Skillicorn & John Skillicorn her son/John Skillicorn pred and John Skillicorn his son: The said Elizabeth Skillicorn is dead, whereby the Right of her fell to her son John Skillicorn by cause of Heirship according to law, and the property of the whole iiii s being thus in him, He hath settled the one half thereof upon the above John Skillicorn Junr his son by contract of marriage dated the 19th Novembr 1722 lawfully confirmed by the court.)

Are Cotteene and Ceiggeen the same name?

Thanks again for your help.

Lois
