remember the description of Dalby by John Welch in 1836 - Just beyond Glenmoij is Dalby, which on account of its total seclusion from all society may be denominated " the fag end of a God forgotten-world". - as I said Manx survived in the more rural + isolated parts (and Niabyl is even further away than Dalby!) - it was a good trek to Peel tho I suspect Wm was somewhat exagerating as Glen Maye (the nearest significant hamlet) would have many English born miners and the local school (parish school in Dalby Church + Wesleyan SS) would certainly have used English a good part of time.
