Manx Genealogy

Re: Alex. Kaneen/Eliz Looney New York and Ohio

Hi again, Deb,

No, I am not related to this family. I have been working on a study of Manx families who were in Cleveland by 1850 (so strictly speaking this family doesn’t fit, but the family ofThomas Kaneen/Betsey Cleator does)

I corrected the birth date for Ella in my notes. (Thank you!)

I just did a bit of checking--probaly not telling you anything you didn't already know, but I thought I would include it, in case it helps anyone else.

Ohio Marriage Records, at Familysearch.org gives Elizabeth Kaneen’s marriage to William Brew, on the date you had. (Always nice when the county marriage records agree with the family Bible!)

Harvard Grove Interment records give her death and burial, and the address given, 2045 Cannon St, agrees with the 1880 census. Elizabeth died of “lung trouble” in Cleveland, June 4, 1895, age 66. There is an entry at Findagrave.com for Harvard Grove which gives her date of death as June 4, 1890 (most likely an error due to difficulty reading an old stone). The Findagrave entry is submitted by Tim Davis, as were the other Kaneen entries I originally cited.

The Cleveland Public Library Necrology File does not seem to have an obit for Elizabeth, and I could find no information about William Brew. 1900 census, which asks for month and year of birth, has “unknown” for William.

1880 Cleveland census (2045 Cannon St): William Brew 38 carpet weaver IOM; Elizabeth 52 IOM; Robert Kaneen 19 stepson works in iron mill; John Brew 28 brother works in iron mill; Joseph Ratcliff 42 boarder painter.

1900 Cleveland census: (2045 Cannon St) William Brew 57 immig 1865 in US 35yrs Na, laborer/mill

1900 Cleveland city directory has William Brew at 2045 Cannon, carpet weaver. Next door is another Brew family (related?)

I have a bit about Robert (if I have the right one). Did he go to Wisconsin, to Colorado, and back to Wisconsin?
