Manx Genealogy

Menx immigration Vermont 1820s

William S. Caine and his wife Margaret (surname unknown) had, according to the 1850 Warrensville census, a son William, born IOM about 1820, and children Eliza 1827, Ann 1825-1830, and Morrison 1831 born in Vermont, from 1827 to 1831.

1850 Warrensville census # 3153: Wm S. Caine 59 farmer IOM; Margaret 60 IOM; Wm 30 IOM; Morrison 19 VT

The Women of the Western Reserve compilation for Warrensville gives Eliza, Mrs. McFadden: Ann Cane, Mrs Oscar Welch, St. Albans, Vermont,

Was there a Manx settlement in Vermont during this time period (1820-1840)? What would have been the route to northern Vermont from the Isle of Man? (Did they enter Vermont through Canada, possibly Montreal? Does anyone know of any Canadian immigration lists? It seems unlikely that they would have gone to Vermont from New York (not much in the way of transportation)

There are 2 William Caines in Franklin County, (Swanton, which is just north of St. Albans), in 1830:
5, 2, 7 [5 persons under 20; 2 persons 20-40, 7 persons total
3, 2, 5 [3 persons under 20: William Jr, Eliza, Ann] 2 persons 20 to 40 [William Sr, Margaret] However both of these William Caines look like they could have been there in 1840 (both with larger families)

There is a William Caine in Warrensvile in 1840 who could be this William Caine (ages and se xes of familiy members fit) but without all of the names one can't be sure.

1840 Warrensville census William Caine: 1 m ale 10-15 (Morrison); 1 m ale 20-30 (William, Jr.); 1 m ale 40-50 (William); 1 fem ale 10-15 (Ann); 1
fem ale 15-20 (Eliza); 1 fem ale 40-50 (Margaret)

Any information about this family, or about Manx immigrants to Vermont, is much appreciated
