Re: Caroline Jane Lucy Christian

Hi Elaine,

Further to my message last night, I've looked again at your first message about Caroline.
You wrote:
".... dau of Thomas Phillip Christian ->Jane Sayle Christian (chr. 1859, France) m. Edward Crellin, among others
->son John Sayle Christian and dau. Jane Sayle Christian Crellin*
I have the will (May 15th, 1919) of Jane Sayle Christian Crellin* who was a cousin to John Longford Mellor Christian. In her will she bequeaths her estate, etc., to her “dearly loved Caroline Jane Lucy Christian" ... and in the event of Caroline Jane Lucy Christian’s death, all would go to her cousin John Longford Mellor Christian or his heirs..".

Firstly, what does "among others" refer to?

Secondly, dau of Thomas Phillip Christian ->Jane Sayle Christian (chr. 1859, France) has the wrong date, as previously mentioned regarding thepeerage.com errors.

Jane Sayle CRELLIN 84 yrs., Washington House, Ramsey, was buried in Maughold on 16 Feb 1917. From this record and from censuses, Jane Sayle Crellin, sister of Thomas Philip Christian, was born in Le Havre France c.1833.

She was a widow living alone in 1881, so had not then taken over the care of her niece Caroline b.c.1878 (aged 13 in 1891 when her age was more likely to be correct than in later censuses).

Thirdly, where you write "... and in the event of Caroline Jane Lucy Christian’s death, all would go to her cousin John Longford Mellor Christian or his heirs.." what does "her" cousin mean? Do you mean "her" as the writer of the will, as in "my cousin" or "her" as Caroline's cousin?
Please write this again exactly how the will was written.
(You also wrote "Jane Sayle Christian Crellin who was a cousin to John Longford Mellor Christian".)

In Caroline's will did she write "my cousin John Longford Lee Crellin Christian", or just his name? Did she mention anyone else? (When did she die?)

In the 1911 census all three women were still together at Washington Mount Ballure Road Ramsey, all of Private means, and all getting younger - Jane Head 74 widow b.France, Jane single daur 47 b.Ramsey, and Caroline single niece 30 b.France, AND John CHRISTIAN Nephew Married 54 Private Means b.Ballaugh IOM.
Wouldn't this be John Longford Mellor Christian? So presumably "her cousin" referred to Caroline - cousin to John - if you are quoting directly from the will and not just writing an explanation?

If so, that leaves four potential fathers for Caroline, brothers of Jane Sayle Crellin:
Robert Oates Christian bapt Ramsey 8 Dec.1822.
John William Christian bapt Ramsey 14 May 1826.
Howard Christian son 12 (in 1851) Scholar b.France. So b.c.1839
Matthew Christian son 11 (in 1851) Scholar b.France. So b.c.1840
