Re: Mary Hogg
In Response To: Re: Mary Hogg ()

Hi again Donna,

I had a look at the 1851 census scan, and Thomas Kelly's wife is definitely Mary, not Margaret (Mary & Marg often look alike). It must be one Brian missed when he rewrote his indexes.

I also think that Thomas Kelly's age was 51 (joined to the bar of the "5"), because the "7" at the top of the page is written completely differently with the tail continuing below the line.

There is a bapt in Lezayre for Jane KELLY on 7 Dec. 1823, daur of Thos KELLY & "Margt" QUAYLE! (Which means that she was probably underage at her marriage to James Hogg.)

I found 5 children under the IGI batch no. for Lezayre, with two where Mary was entered as Margt. They were Jane (1823), Margaret (1826), Mary Anne (1828), John Thomas (1831), & William (1834). Then Esther 1840 in Ramsey (no Agnes).

The 1841 Ramsey census (Corrans Tanyard Lane?) has:
Thomas Kelly 40 Ag Lab
Mary Kelly 35
Mary Kelly 12
John Kelly 10
Thomas Kelly 5
Esther Kelly 2

Jane HOGG als KELLY would have been only 27 in the 1851 census, and bapt Lezayre, if I have the right one above. Could she have remarried as Jane Kelly before the 1851 census? Just a thought.
