Edward SKILLICORN & Alice GOLDSMITH/KELLY
In Response To: Re: Skillicorns ()

Maughold parish register:

Alice Isabella SKILLICORN, 75, 3 Market Hill, Ramsey, buried Maughold 28 Jun 1931.

Alice Isabella daur of William GOLDSMITH & Ann KELLY bapt Dhoon Church 11 Mar 1856.

I can't see a marriage for her parents, but the birth is not recorded as illegitimate. - However this is indicated by the use of both her surnames later. (And confirmed by Ann Kelly's marriage, below.)

In 1861 Alice Goldsmith aged 4 is a lodger in the Lonan household of Thomas Maddrell, 29, Miner & Ann Maddrell, 25, b.Maughold, and their children Margaret 2 and Thomas 9 mths, all b.Lonan.

Maughold marriage:
5 Jun 1858
Thomas MADDRELL, Full age, Bachelor, Miner, Kirk Lonan, [father] William Maddrell, Weaver, and
Ann KELLY, Full age, Spinster, Maughold, [father] Robert Kelly, Farmer.

There were several William Goldsmiths in Maughold & Ramsey in 1861.

The 1901 census for the household of Edward & Alice (given previously) included daur Effie aged 16 b.USA, so b.c.1885. Edward & Alice married in 1889. The IGI has an entry for Effie Goldsmith Kelly born 4 July 1884 Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, with mother Alice and father John. US records might throw some light on this.
I think you need to buy that marriage cert. for Alice & Edward, previously suggested, to find out more about Alice.
