the first Heelis on the Island appears to be Josiah found running a hotel in Ramsey in 1823 (+prob a little earlier) - one comment was "Sometimes we stayed at Ramsey, then a very small place. Heelis's Hotel, an old-fashioned one, was kept by the reputed son, or grandson, of a Scottish peer."
