"John Wade bpt 28 Sept 1801 Ramsey son of James Wade and Mary Christian, bur. 14 Nov 1889 Maughold 88 yrs., marr Elizabeth Lace 17 May 1825 Maughold. Elizabeth Lace bur 17 May 1871 Maughold 65 yrs." [I'm not sure that this burial is correct. The register notes that Elizabeth Wade aged 65 was residing in Ballachrink, Lezayre. Sue]

I think the John Edwin Corkill bpt 13 Nov 1851 Ramsey illeg s/o Jane Corkill is the John who Josie found in England".

I think your best clues are in that 1871 census, with his relationship to Catherine Lewis head mar 39 b IOM, Margaret Lewis dau 2 b Liverpool, James Lace nephew 21 ships plater? b IOM, John Wade nephew 19 ships carpenter b IOM, which Bruce posted, and his suggestion to locate the birth certificate of Margaret Lewis in 1848 or 1849 which would give her mother's maiden name.
