Re: joughin
In Response To: Re: joughin ()

Stuart, while visiting Australia in 1986 I spoke on the phone to George Victor Joughin of Hervey Bay. From what he said, he would be a first cousin of your father, his father being your great-uncle Victor.

I have picked up you and your brother Martin, also your father, uncle and aunt. Their mother was Ada C. Cartmell. The previous generation is giving me trouble. I find your grandfather and great-uncle Victor, but might your great-uncle Hubert have been Herbert Bramwell Joughin? Annie has eluded me. Their parents were Thomas Joughin and Emma Dutton, who married in Warwickshire in 1899. Thomas was the eldest of six children of Thomas Joughin and Ellen Kneale. He was baptised in Ramsey (that would be at St. Paul’s) in 1863, though his five younger siblings were baptised in Bride while the family was living at Ballacorey, in Andreas parish. The parentage of their father Thomas is problematical.

If you would like to go into this further, please send me an e-mail, and let me have your address, so that I can send you a family tree or two, but give me a little time as I have two other queries to respond to first.
