The Isle of Man Examiner of 23 May 1896 reported the
following meeting. ENGINEERS SOCIETY. A meeting was held in
Douglas on Tuesday night, at which it was decided to form a
branch of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers for Douglas.
Seventeen members joined. Mr. A.L. Whyte was elected
president, Mr. William Callister secretary, Mr. A.E.Cross money
steward, Mr. T.Putman, treasurer, Messrs. J.J. Sayle and C.S.
Broadbent, auditors, Messrs. J. Moore and H.S. Thornton

The trade union listed as the Engineers Society' in the Isle of
Man Examiner Annual 1902, with Mr. W. Callister of 3
Sydney Street, Douglas as secretary and in the 1911 Annual ,
E. Kelly, Dalton Street, Douglas, is presumably the same
organisation as the first national, 'new Model union' founded in
1851, reported above.
