The Peel City Guardian of 12 October 1895 announced the opening in rooms in Michael Street of a new club. 'As they will be fitted up and replete with papers and books, it is hoped, that a large membership will be secured. It is intended to hold debates upon popular and current questions. In order to provide for the comfort and equipment necessary for the formation of this club,and for the furnishing of the rooms, the membership fee will probably be 5s. for the season'.
