A full account of this first Laxey cooperative society, from institution to its 21st anniversary on 19 March 1891, was published in the Isle of Man Times of 28 March 1891, later reprinted in pamphlet form as Laxey industrial Co-operative Society - an historical sketch.
The managing committee of Captain Killip, chairman, Dr. Bradbury, J.R. Moore, W. Killip, Thomas Scarffe, John Oliver, David Senogles, William Kelly, James Henry Kelly.and William Cojeen invited 700 shareholders and other guests to a tea meeting, public meeting and concert to celebrate the anniversary. The meeting, interspersed with musical items, was addressed by the Chairman, Captain Killip, who described the progress of the society since its beginning, followed by Mr.I.E. Moorhouse, a director of the Co-operative Wholesale Society of Manchester, who spoke on the efficient organisation of the Co-operative movement, its healthy, commercial future and its enormous potential for good.
An Historical Sketch , appended, gives a resume of the main events in the society's history, including the breakaway in 1874 of a group of members in order to establish an independent store in Old Laxey.
