[from A.M Harrision's Descriptive List of Insular Societies]
Like Colby, Ballabeg is a considerable node of settlement in the parish of Arbory which developed its own local Friendly Society. No records or published regulations are currently available for research and the one printed account of its operation, a report of its annual anniversary celebrations published in the Manx Sun of 18 May, 1850, has little detailed information.
'At an early hour the members met at their club-room, and after making the necessary arrangements, formed in procession, and proceeded with a band of music to Kirk Arbory Church, where a suitable and impressive sermon was preached by the Rev. A. Gelling Vicar of this parish.'
It is not listed as in operation in the Medical Aid and Poor Relief Commission Report of 1879
