The committee of this society 'in returning thanks to a generous public for past aid, feel gratitude in acknowledging that the sum of £170 2s.5½d.has been received, and distributed by the society, since its formation, and that during the last year £21 2s. 9d has been collected, and £22 4s. 8d.distributed to the poor and destitute of Castletown, leaving a balance due to the treasurer of £1 1s. 11d.'
A rough calculation of the revenue of the average year's charitable efforts would suggest that this Methodist society was about eight years old, founded probably in the early 1830's, say 1833 or 1834. This report, published in the Manx Sun of 10 September, 1841, went on to inform the public, in the course of the constant fund-raising for the helpless poor, incapable of self help, that the annual sermons in aid of the Institution were to be preached in the Methodist Chapel in Castletown by the Rev. Mr. Lucas from Birmingham the next Sunday
