The Manx Sun of 16 November 1830 reported a meeting in Douglas at which a society was formed for the promotion and encouragement of rural economy and industry generally. Its rules, drawn up in advance, were 'unanimously adopted and persons from several parishes became members' The society was to be run on the same lines as the Highland Society, possibly an indication of the still surviving Scottish connection of the Atholl Lordship. William Cubbon notes in his Bibliography that the rules, printed in 1830, are not in the Manx National Heritage Library and there are no further references to this nineteenth century patriotic society.
