The Colby Society's anniversary celebrations of Whit Monday, 1845, were recorded in the Manx Sun of May 17th. 'They met at Mrs. Watterson's, and proceded to Arbory Church, where a plain and useful sermon was preached by the Rev. G.S.Parsons; afterwards they marched about the neighbourhood, and sat down to a plentiful dinner. Loyal and humorous toasts were drank, and the evening spent very agreeably. This flourishing society was established in 1830; its stock amounts to £950. The stewards have paid this year £90 to the sick, and have an increase of £80.'
This soundly- based society serving, like Ballabeg Friendly Society, a distinct centre of population in Arbory parish was still registered as active in the 1879 Medical Aid and Poor Relief Commission Report.
