The date of the final closure is not yet ascertained but may have been hastened by the undiminishing pressure of the two British, affiliated temperance societies which operated in Rushen, the Mona Rushen Tent of Rechabites, founded in 1859, and the Oddfellows Loyal Harbour of Peace Lodge at Port St. Mary, the Island's largest fishing port, founded in 1839.
