Sir
James Gell, C.V.O. filled most of the official offices in the Isle of Man. He
was High Bailiff of Castletown; H.M. Attorney-General;
First Deemster; and Clerk of the Rolls. He
also served as Acting Governor and Deputy Governor. He was a Church Commissioner
and Chairman of the Insular Justices of the Peace. Edited a number of works
dealing with laws and constitution of the Island. He died
in Castletown 1905.
Son of James Gell (Kennaa) and Mary McHutchin.
