APPOINTMENT OF EDMUND MORTAYN TO EXPEL THE SCOTS FROM THE ISLE OF MAN. A.D. 1329.

THE King (it being recited that Roger Outlawe, prior, etc., lieutenant of John Darcy, Justice of Ireland, on account of urgent business, as well respecting the peace with the Irish, to be confirmed in different parts of Ireland, as other matters, is unable to be present at the recovery of the Isle of Man, which island has been entered by Richard de Maundevill* with a multitude of Scotch felons, for the purpose of conquering it,) has appointed master Edmund Mortayn, escheator of Ireland, and brother John Tyrel, in his place, to lead the men whom the said place is bound to send thither, and to perform all other matters which may appear to be to the King's advantage. Dublin, September.
