| AP_24_1 | 5.8.1825 | Report on the Duke's Estates and Property in the Isle of Man,by John Douglas
of Perth. He remarks that the present value of land is much less than it might easily become if methods of cultivation were improved and the tenentry were more active and enterprising. The roads,he says,are excellent. Glebe lands are on the best soil but, generally speaking,badly managed. Of the Bishop's demesne half has been greatly improved during the past few years so that it has doubled in value, and the remainder is now being attended to. All Demesne Lands,purchased Property and Church Lands (Bishopcourt and glebes) are then described and valued individually,and in many cases suggestions are made for their improvement. There is a list of house property in Douglas and a nicely executed sketch plan of the lands of Castle Mona,Ballequayle and Port e Chee estates. |
