Decree from the Att.-Gen. of England with regard to the Estates of Great Meadow,CalCott's Glese and others,late belonging to the dissolved Monastry of Rushen etc, which are held by Will. Lucas,hie wife Elizabeth and her son Rich. Calcott, It is claimed that these have been obtained illegally,being in fact the property of Sir Thomas Leigh and Thomas Spencer Esq., The claim of Lucas etc.is upheld by the Deemsters,but the Att.-Gen. declares that they have no power to do so,the matter being one for the King'sCourts. (I think this is what it means,but am not certain about it. N.M.)

Petition to Gov.Wood from Thos.Arthur (merchant of Douglas) requesting confirmation fer the use of a plot of land, being stones and sand cast up by the sea near to his dwelling,which the late Governor had allowed him to use for the erection of a coach-house. This was needed because "Your Petr. having a carriage for the convenience of his family,by reason of the narrowness and crookedness of the streets and lanes of the town of Douglas he could not meet with a spot of ground convenient to his dwelling house whereon to build a coach-house" (Copy ) Memorial to Duke from John Quayle praying for the grant of a clear title to the above land and coach-house which had been left to him by Mr.Arthur who "was for many years the principal merchant in Douglas,but upon the Island being vested in the Crown retired to Ireland,and upon his death left all his property in the I.O.M. to John Quayle."(Original)
