N° 31.

The EXAMINATION of Mr. GEORGE SAVAGE, taken at Douglas, in the Isle of Man, the 28th Day of September, 1791.

[Examined by the Duke of Atholl.]

This Examinant saith, that he is a Native of this Island, and has been employed in different Departments of the Revenues of Customs in the Port of Peel, in this Island, since 1766.- That there is a Custom of Ten Shillings upon every Manks Boat employed in the Herring Fishery at the Port of Peel, and all other Parts of the Island.- He does not know, or did he ever hear, of an Instance where the Collection of this Custom by Government has been the Means of detecting or preventing illicit Practices ; and he believes, from the Nature of his Situation, that he should have known is any such Instance had existed.
