(86a) Flax Mill nr Sulby - Claddagh Mill

From 1868 O/S Plan IV/12 - SC 389941

The name "Claddagh Mill" is that used in the sale in 1864

Just downstream of the more photogenic Ballamenaugh Corn mill

Some history is given in Reg Deed Dec 1880 #31 -

dated 13 Aug 1838;recites that Patrick & Issac Vondy (Ballig, Jurby) sold for £18 to Daniel Cleator(Jurby) on 14 Dec 1825 half of the Flax mill in parish of Lezayre held by them + Thomas Corlett(Claddaugh, Lezayre) - sd Daniel Cleator now sells his portion of the mill for £18 to John Vondy(Jurby) witt John Edwd Harrison, John Looney;

Annexed release + sale dated 30 Jul 1864 notes that mill has been allowed to fall into decay and the machinery and materials removed and that Daniel Vondy for £8 paid by Mrs Isabella Craine (widow of Daniel Craine late proprietor of the Claddagh Mill) quit claims any right to sd mill; Witt John Corlett, John Morrison .

So far I have not been able to locate the initial sale from Patrick and brother Isaac Vondy
